Preparation is everything

The Walters family has decided to take a holiday of a lifetime to New Zealand in order to visit Vicky in Auckland. Because it's such a beautiful country we have decided to take a 'Thelma and Louise' style road trip, only with five of us instead of two, and a Rav 4 instead if a convertable. We will, however, be doing the drive off the edge of the cliff. Honest!

As every Last family member knows these things must be planned in meticulous detail. No stone can be left unturned, every minute of every day needs to be planned to the second, this is not a holiday, zis is a forced march.

So for the last few weeks Vicky and I have been researching the delights of New Zealand to the Nth degree. We have found out which are the best places to visit and what are the best things to do. I have looked on Trip Advisor till my eyeballs have bled to find the best hotels and motels in our price bracket. We have then gone ahead and booked everything. No spontaneity will spoil this family trek. We will be staying in apartment hotels, motels, and in one case above a cafe. One motel had to be cancelled when, deep down on the trip advisor reviews I came across mention of bedbugs

We have booked trips to visit caves, glaciers and volcanos. We will be seeing Hobbiton, Rivendell, Edoras, the paths of the dead and Mount Doom. We will be viewing whales and dolphins, glow worms, geysers, hot springs, mud pools and kiwis. We will be ascending tall towers and White water rafting. (Yes you heard right,) And we are tying it all up with a trip to watch the sunset over the bay of Islands.

So we are now just three short weeks away from the trip of a lifetime and the countdown is on. Just 21 more sleeps, twelve more working days, six more episodes of breaking bad, and four more home games to go before we board Malaysia airlines flight MH001. I have started packing. I have bought my holiday lush shampoo and my very good value Lloyds pharmacy flight socks. Vicky and I have started singing 'summer holiday' at work. It is imminent.

We are going to New Zealand
